Dara Puspita - A Go Go...

Now then, most of my posts are psych-out gatherings but this one is slightly off the hook. Dara Puspita is the only Indonesian garage girl band from the sixites. The band was a popular attraction in Indonesia and also in the region, playing to enthusiastic crowds in neighbouring countries, such as Thailand and Malaysia. In 1968 they took the almost unprecedented move for an Indonesian band of trying their luck in Europe and spent the next few years touring in England, Holland, France, Belgium, Spain, Germany and Hungary. They even played in Turkey and Iran. While in England they recorded two singles for CBS and recorded another for Philips in Holland. In late 1971 the band returned to Indonesia and played a number of concerts, but enthusiasm was starting to wane and in April 1972 they played their last show. But their music never dies. Never!

Megapuss - Surfing

Devendra Banhart: “Well, I have a band — it’s me and the drummer from Priestbird, Greg Rogove. What started off as a joke — “Let’s start a band and let’s make up song titles” — to our surprise and shock, we started writing songs, and we’ve written eight songs that I’m really really proud of and excited about. We’re gonna record a real record, and we’re called MEGAPUSS.”

High Places - s/t

The holographic finish line of our buttered anticipation! SELF TITLED! The band creates their layered recordings with Mary Pearson singing and simultaneously manipulating her vocals with various delay and reverb pedals, while playing some hand percussion, recorders, and creating and controlling various loops. Rob Barber handles the drums triggering a variety of percussive sounds with his drum pads, as well as playing hand percussion, wooden blocks with contact mics, and singing some ambient vocals. High Places’ self-titled debut was recorded by Rob and Mary in their apartment in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene neighborhood between January and May of 2008. So yeah this is it! this is what you guys been looking for yeah? Enough said about these guys! Hit it!

Björk - Volta

Björk's 6th studio album is promising to be a ten track eclectic mix of beats & vocal, reflective of Björk's visit to Aceh, one of the hardest hit areas of the 2004 tsunami. It also hits hard on Bjork's anger with what is happening in the world right now. According to her interview with Pitchfork, Bjork admits Volta is a “sort of reaction to the state of the world today.” She explains, “I mean, the human race, we are a tribe, let’s face it, and let’s stop all this religious bullshit. I think everybody, or at least a lot of my friends, are just so exhausted with this whole self-importance of religious people. Just drop it. We’re all fucking animals, so let’s just make some universal tribal beat. We’re pagan. Let’s just march.” Her vision is worth the price of submission.

Samara Lubelski - Parallel Suns

Casual listeners might initially be tempted to confine Samara Lubelski's music to the category of "freak folk," but the compositions on her fourth album prove she's not about making oddball shit just to sound weird.

New York City-based multi-instrumentalist Lubelski has played with such acts as the Sonora Pine, Hall of Fame, and Thurston Moore, and has engineered recordings by the Fiery Furnaces and Ted Leo. The neo-psychedelic compositions of her solo work have the focus and clarity to rise above trendy categorization, whether they are spritely like "Taste the Candy" or stately such as "Ego Blossoms." Even the instrumental "Meeting of the Sun" holds together beautifully, with its heady intertwining melodies on organ and harpsichord. But it's on elegant songs such as "Have You Seen the Colors" and "Snowy Meadows II" that Lubelski exercises her warm, breathy purr, which has drawn comparisons to Vashti Bunyan and Anne Briggs. To these ears, her music has much in common with former Dream Syndicate bassist and underrated solo artist Kendra Smith.

In addition to the usual rock instruments, Lubelski fills her lush tunes with bells, tambourines, sitar, electric piano, synthesizers, and violin, on which she plays especially haunting multi-tracked melodies on "Born from the Tree." It's heavenly, ethereal, and a little mind-bending. In fact, there's a vaguely medieval undertone, as well as a slightly disorienting mood, in the arrangements on this album that give it the kaleidoscopic feel, if not the essence, of Iron & Wine's gorgeous album The Shepherd's Dog. Really, it's that good.

The Cairo Gang - s/t

Beautiful blend of noise, folk, ambient and minimalism. Sounds like Sonic Youth meets Benoit Pioulard with more vibrations and less drugs. Try this.

V/A - Hallucinations: Psychedelic Pop Nuggets from the WEA Vaults

Alright kids the 60's isinya bukan cuma Beatles dan the Stones. tapi juga ribuan band keren dengan rasa psychedelic yang lebih berwarna daripada pelangi. Kalo lo denger San Francisco era 60-an, apalagi Golden Gate Park, pasti otak lo langsung referring to suatu tempat ngumpul drug-headed hippie berdansa ria dibawah matahari, main layangan, minum bir diatas tikar, have sex di semak semak, baca puisi, dan lain-lain yang pasti ga jauh-jauh dari panggung rock n' roll.

What are you about to download, adalah album kompilasi lagu-lagu psychedelic pop 60-an yang sarat aroma Golden Gate Park.

Even more genius, track kedua oleh The Misty Wizards masuk dengan harmonisasi vokal ala The Zombies atau Beach Boys yang sangat apik. Gaungan solo gitar di tengah lagu lagi-lagi bikin kita berhalusinasi. Even more you listen, even greater the vibration! seiring lagu berjalan dan berganti ke lagu berikut semakin terasa pula aura psychedelia yang membumbung tinggi. Kim Foley pun tak mau kalah dengan outerspace spaz rock maut miliknya berjudul Strangers From the Sky. If you're hearing this using headphones, then you will feel as you are in some silver spaceship, berbaring di bawah wajah-wajah asing alien yang bereksperimen dengan tubuhmu. And suddenly flute masuk dengan seruan sang alien berkata "There is life on Alpha-Centauri, the north periphere. Eyes of the living stars has seen us!". Yes, pure psychedelic experience extra-galaxy. Bayangkan zat apa yang diinject mr. green man kedalam tubuhmu! tentunya bukan asam lysergic diethylamide biasa. Who's to help? That's The Way It's Gonna Be, Wait and See. The rest of the trip depends on how calm your souls menghadapi perjalanan luar jiwa ini. Have a nice trip.

This trip is extremely for use under experienced supervision. Unresponsible use can cause bad trip, or even flip out.
